Fiura Consulting LLC is the living embodiment of my own American dream. I founded this company in September 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a mathematician, an immigrant, a first-generation scholar, and living proof that where you start does not determine where you finish.

I grew up in Peru without running water, electricity, proper clothing, or shoes. Yet, at just eight years old, I made a decision that would reshape my entire life: education would be my way out. That single conviction became my compass. I graduated from Colegio San José de Tarbes, earned my bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Universidad Nacional de Piura, and in 2000, crossed an ocean to pursue graduate studies in the United States—a country whose language I did not yet speak and whose systems I had to learn entirely on my own.

I learned them anyway. I mastered English, adapted to a new culture, and built my teaching and research experience from the ground up. Along the way, I found something I had never had before: mentors. Remarkable people in the United States believed in my potential, opened doors I did not even know existed, and showed me—by example—what was truly possible.

I looked up to them, learned from them, and I carry their influence with me to this day. With their guidance and my own relentless drive, I earned both my MS and PhD in Applied Mathematics—from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of New Mexico, respectively—launching a successful career spanning academia, research, and data science. From a childhood without electricity to a doctoral degree, every single mile of that road was earned.

That road is also why this work matters so deeply to me. I know exactly what it feels like to be the student with no map—first as a first-generation college student in Peru, and later as a newcomer in the United States navigating a foreign language, an unfamiliar academic culture, and systems that were never designed with someone like me in mind. What changed everything for me was not just persistence—it was people. The mentors who saw something in me, challenged me, and refused to let me settle for less than my best, changed the trajectory of my life. Their investment in me became the blueprint for everything I now do for others.

I built Fiura Consulting so that no one has to figure it all out alone.
